The ice cream shop is closed

A heartfelt thank you to my ice cream family for all the well wishes and support over the past 5-1/2 years. I wish I could reply and thank each and every one of you personally but the numbers are huge.

WOW, what a send-off it was. You guys came in numbers this weekend (9/29/24) and gave OMG the highest-grossing weekend in its history.

It’s been a long haul from signing my first lease in 2016 in a location that had some unresolvable issues with the landlord and never came to be, to my second lease which became our first location for 3 years and our final location at The Cross Church event center for the final 2-1/2.

We’ve made lots of good ice cream, a couple of bad ones and a accident flavor — what the heck am I going to do with all these pecan pies ice cream that became our number 1 seller for the duration of our existence?

Fried pies have always been my passion since I was a young boy and when we opened our first location it was one of my first goals to make fried pies to go with our ice cream. Some of the first ones were pretty rough but we eventually tweaked them into the delectable treat that they are today. The pie dough was a work in progress for over 4 years before I became happy with it.

You guys stuck with me through Covid and what a story there is to tell there. So many times we went out in groups shopping just to find one pound of flour or one pound of sugar just to barely keep going.

One of my funniest memories over the years was when we did the Grinch video for Christmas a couple of years ago where the Wylie Grinch stole a cup of ice cream from me and ran out the door. About 6 or 8 months later a mom and her young son came to the shop and while checking them out the little boy said, I have a question, did the Grinch ever come back and pay you for the ice cream he stole from you? When I told him no, the look on his face was priceless!

As tough as it was to keep it going over the years, it’s all fond memories now.

I hope everyone who wanted to get on the list for pop up events next year at some point was able to do so.

We will be at Wylie Farmers Market on October 19, 2024 and I will be open for Boo on Ballard with soft serve ice cream only, brownies, fried pies, brisket dogs and foot long corn dogs (no dipping cabinet) and more.

If I can muster up the energy I’m working on a Christmas surprise for everyone. Stay tuned on that…

Follow us on Facebook for any pop-ups we decide to do.

A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported my staff and myself, we couldn’t have done it without you.
